The Park University Pirates have been selected for the Musco Team Sportsmanship Award for the sport of softball, announced by the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The Pirates, under head coach Lindsey Derry, earned the award for their display of the NAIA's Five Core Character Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Teams are nominated throughout the season by Athletics Administrators, Game Officials, Coaches, Student-Athletes and Fans.
Here is what the nominators had to say about the Pirates:
"Coach Derry and the Pirates year in and year out have one of the most respectful and character driven programs I have witnessed in the Heart. It's no surprise that Coach Derry and the Pirates received the Conference Commissioners Association Champions of Character Team Award, which is a national award, a few years ago."
