Each week, the Heart spotlights one of the conference's top matchups, showcasing the student-athletes and programs that elevate competition across the NAIA.
This week's Heart Conference Series of the Week, presented by the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, features a rivalry baseball series between Benedictine and Baker. The four-game series will be hosted by Baker at Sauder Field in Baldwin City, Kansas, with doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. each day, with game two to follow at 3:30 p.m.
Baker enters the matchup with a 15–11 overall record and a 3–5 mark in conference play, riding momentum on a four-game winning streak. After opening conference action against nationally ranked No. 8 Missouri Baptist, the Wildcats found their rhythm in a four-game series against receiving votes Central Methodist, going 3–4 on the weekend (March 21–22). Baker continued its strong play into the week with a doubleheader sweep of Peru State, earning 5–1 and 5–2 victories.
Benedictine brings a 17–9 overall record and a 7–1 conference mark into the contest, establishing itself as one of the early leaders in the Heart. The Ravens are coming off an impressive four-game sweep of Missouri Valley, winning 11–2, 10–4, 6–3, and 8–5. The series marked Benedictine's first conference sweep since the 2022–23 regular season and highlights one of the program's strongest starts in recent years.
As longtime rivals, both programs enter the weekend with momentum and something to prove. Benedictine looks to maintain its position near the top of the conference standings, while Baker aims to continue its surge and climb back into contention. With postseason implications already beginning to take shape, this matchup presents a key opportunity for both teams as the Heart season progresses.
