HAAC Student Athletes Earn National Honors
For the 3rd time in the young '07 season, a HAAC Football player has earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors. Derek Doerfler, Baker University Kicker from Lee's Summit, Missouri, kicked a 62 yard Field Goal with 48 seconds remaining in the game to defeat William Jewell 15-13. Derek's performance earned him NAIA "Special Teams" National Player of the Week. He scored all of Baker's 15 points with 5 Field Goals of 62, 50, 32, 27 & 20 yards. The 62 yard game winning Field Goal broke Derek's own Baker University School Field Goal record distance of 57 yards he established in the 2007 Baker home opener. He also put 4 of his 6 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks with a long of 70 yards. Derek leads the NAIA with 12 Field Goals in Baker's first 6 games. Previous '07-'08 HAAC winners of NAIA Football National Player of the Week honors were Jerome Messam, Graceland University Running Back & Joel Stevens, Evangel University Special Teams Kick returner.
