Arrieta And Vega Garner All-American Honors
Lamoni, IA - After helping to guide the women's soccer team to its fourth consecutive national tournament appearance, senior Karina Vega and junior Gisela Arrieta were honored as all-americans Monday.
Arrieta finished the season as a first team all-conference performer and was fifth in the NAIA in goals per game at 1.24. Arrietas' technical game and scoring ability was a big part of Graceland's success this year.
Vega, a senior midfielder, helped the Yellowjackets in several ways this season and throughout her career. A polished defensive player, Vega helped guide the Jackets to a national tournament berth in all four of her years at GU. This season, she compiled 9 goals to go along with 6 assists.
"This honor is a testament to the hard work these two ladies have put in during their careers," said Head Coach Fred Wagenaar about the honors. "I'm very proud of both of them and they're fantastic representatives of what it means to be a Jacket.
"Karina will be greatly missed next season in the midfield," continued Wagenaar. "Gisela will be back for her senior campaign and I look for big things from her," he finished.
Congratulations to both Karina and Gisela on being named honorable mention all-americans for the 2011 season!
