Higher Seeds Earn Trip to Heart Semifinals, Presented by 516 Sports Capital
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – In the quarterfinal round of the Heart of America Women's Soccer Conference Tournament, the top four seeds came away with wins and advanced to the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 8.
#1 Central Methodist Defeats #8 Mount Mercy, 3-0
After winning the Heart Conference regular season, the Eagles took down Mount Mercy in the Heart Quarterfinals on Wednesday. Just five minutes into the game, Second Team All-Conference honoree Luisa Schaupp got things going on an assist from Heart Co-Player of the Year Mariana Barreto.
After heading into halftime with a 1-0 lead, Sara Garcia who earned Second Team honors scored on another assist from Barreto to extend the lead to 2-0. Before the game was over, Schaupp scored her second goal and Barreto added her third assist to give the Eagles a 3-0 win.
#2 Missouri Valley Defeats #7 Missouri Baptist, 5-0
Scoring five goals in their second straight game, the undefeated Missouri Valley Vikings defeated Missouri Baptist, 5-0 on Wednesday. Scoring started 10 minutes in with a goal from First Team All-Conference honoree Ashley Arribas. 15 minutes later, Heart Co-Player of the Year Marta Carrasco Mesa netted a goal to extend the lead to 2-0 which held until halftime.
Just over two minutes into the second half, Second Team honoree Carla Carmona added to the lead to make it 3-0. Before the end of the game, Julia Richardson and Serena Amaya Abe each tacked on one more goal and Missouri Valley moved into the semifinals with a 5-0 win.
#3 MidAmerica Nazarene Defeats #6 Clarke, 2-1
Third Team All-Conference honoree Achaia Day scored the first goal of the afternoon on Wednesday, scoring in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams went scoreless for the next 50 minutes until Melony Jimenez of Clarke scored to tie the game at one.
With the score tied and just 10 minutes left on the clock, Second Team All-Conference award winner Bella Leon hit the game winner to give MNU the 2-1 win and help them advance to the semifinals.
#4 Benedictine Defeats #5 Park, 1-0
Despite Park taking 15 shots to Benedictine's six, the Ravens came away with the 1-0 win on Wednesday in the Heart Quarterfinals. Both teams went scoreless for the first half with Park taking nine shots.
A little over 20 minutes into the second half, Rowan Yows who was a Third Team All-Conference honoree struck and gave the Ravens the 1-0 lead they were looking for. They would hold this lead for the rest of the game to win, 1-0 and advance to the Heart Semifinals.
